MSFS Service Vehicle Bug

The latest update for Microsoft Flight Simulator, the 6 January 2022 one has introduced a new bug into the program that you should be aware of.

All our airports have their own Service Vehicles defined. Having Service Vehicles at smaller airports is unrealistic as these airports usually do not have any pushback trucks. At the medium sized airports such as Richards Bay, you need the Service Vehicles, but only at the medium and large parking spots. At the small parking areas, the service vehicles are not needed. We have therefore designed our own Airport Services and Living World Config Files to place the Airport Services at our airports as they should be in real life.

Up to now, this process has worked flawlessly. Around a 10km radius around our airports, our own Airport Services and Living World files where active, but as soon as you move outside of this 10km boundary, then the default Microsoft Airport Services and Living World would become active. This way, the Ground Services at the default airports would not be affected by our airports.

The latest update for Microsoft Flight Simulator has changed all that, due to a bug introduced with the update. Whenever you copy one of our airports into the MSFS Community Folder, you will notice that the ground services at all the airports worldwide will disappear, even the at the default airports. Any addon airport that has its own Airport Services and Living World files defined that you can download, or purchase will have this issue. It is not just limited to our work.

Obviously, Microsoft will need to fix this, which will probably happen with the next update… In the meantime, we have found this work around that will allow you to keep using the ground services.

Go into the folder for every airport and then delete the folders named AirportServices and LivingWorld_Config. That will fix the ground services for the default and addon airports, but now you will see service vehicles at airports that does not have service traffic. This is the only solution until Microsoft fixes the issue.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Airport Updates

We have updated our Microsoft Flight Simulator airports with Airport Services and Living World configurations.

This update will be most noticeable at the smaller airfields where your aircraft will no longer be swamped by service personnel looking for work to do! In fact, we have limited the service at parking areas to Medium General Aviation Parking bays and higher. Small General Aviation Parking Bays will no longer be services at all. This is in line with the real world.

When you land at Zebula Airport, there will be no one there to meet you, which is exactly the way it should be! The same with Saldanha and Virginia. These airports are not big enough for these types of services.

Airports like Richards Bay is different. There you have Small General Aviation Parking and Medium General Aviation Parking. The Medium Parking Bays are used by the commercial flights to the airport and those parking bays will have services. The Small General Aviation Parking Bays does not have any service, which is again as it should be. That is the one place you do not want any people around your aircraft!

We have updated the following airports with these services.

  • Port Elizabeth Airport V3.6.6
  • Richards Bay Airport V1.0.8
  • Saldanha Airport V1.0.7
  • Sishen Airport V1.0.1
  • Virginia Airport V1.4.8
  • Zebula Airport V1.2.7

You can download these from your Account Downloads page once you have logged into your account.

Wonderboom Airport has already been updated with these features before release. We have no plans to update Johannesburg International as we have found that the default services provided by Microsoft Flight Simulator at the airport is sufficient for now.

Johannesburg Intl Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Released

We are pleased to announce the release of Johannesburg Intl Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Released!

We have made this version as close to reality as we could with custom-made runways, our own flashing wigwags, effects such as our own taxiway lines, markings on the aprons and dirt spots on the parking areas and extra skid marks on the runway landing area!

We have added as much detail as we could without sacrificing frame rate too much. You should be able to land at this airport with any custom-made aircraft, even the PMDG ones!

Jetways are also available at the applicable parking bays, and we also took extra care in making sure that the night lighting on the runways and taxiways as are they are in real life. This is important to us as only runway 03L/21R has green taxiway centreline lights. The other taxiways do not have these.

We are posting screen shots of the airport below for your viewing pleasure.

Something is no longer broken!

We did it! We have figured out what is causing Microsoft Flight Simulator to crash, and we are fixing it!

As you all know, the latest patch V1.16.2.0 was released on the 18th of May 2021 and immediately after that, we started receiving reports that three of our airports causes Microsoft Flight Simulator to crash to the desktop.

The airports affected was Virginia (FAVG), Richards Bay (FARB) and Port Elizabeth (FAPE), but Zebula (FAWX) and Saldanha (FASD) Airports continued to work. It took us a while to figure it out, but we did and now we are in the process of fixing those airports that do not work.

As we progress, we will send email to the clients who have bought Virginia (FAVG), Richards Bay (FARB) and Port Elizabeth (FAPE) from us as soon as we have fixed those airports. Keep a close lookout on your inbox for that message! You will not have to wait too long!
