This is something we should have done a long time ago, but we have been putting it off until now.
We have changed the name of our Johannesburg / OR Tambo airport package to Johannesburg International Airport. The reason for this is twofold. We sell through SimMarket in Germany, and they have now implemented changes on their system that only allow for package names for up to 40 characters. That means that the name we had before: OR Tambo/Johannesburg International Airport is too long for them to handle.
Second and probably more important is that it is only us locals that addresses the airport as OR Tambo! Most of the people overseas know the airport as Johannesburg International. It is like the Rome International Airport whose actual name is Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport, but no one uses that name! We initially started using the new name to be politically correct, but now we see the error of our ways.
We have therefore changed the name of the package, to Johannesburg International so that everyone knows what airport we are talking about! It seems better to rather leave politics for the Politian’s which is where it belongs anyway!
The airport ID of FAOR will stay the way it is. We are not changing that at all.
If you are a user of Flight Simulator X or Prepar3D, then nothing has changed for you. Everything is still as it was before, same buildings, taxiways, runways. No change, except for the name. There is no need for you to re-download or install this package unless you feel very strongly about the name change.
If you are a X-Plane user, then you may want to get this new version for you as we have added the Chem Air hangar to this version and we have also animated the radar dish on the airport.
All downloads for FSX, Prepar3D and X-Plane have been updated with these changes.
If you have any questions about this change, then do not hesitate to contact us!
