How to reorder scenery in Microsoft Flight Simulator

You are here:

It happens to all of us… Not all scenery packages want to play nice with one another and that is why it is necessary to sometimes re-order the scenery packages that have been installed in Microsoft Flight Simulator. Fortunately, this is a fairly easy process.

Run Microsoft Flight Simulator and then select OPTIONS from the top of the menu.

You will see three options. Select GENERAL OPTIONS.

Select EXPERIMENTAL at the bottom of the list.

You will see several experimental options, but the one we are interested in is the fourth one from the top and it reads PACKAGE REORDER TOOL. You will see that it is set to OFF. Switch the option on.

You will be presented with a black screen as above with all the scenery packages that are installed in your Microsoft Flight Simulator. It is important to know that the entries at the top are the low-level scenery. You will also see that these are locked and cannot be changed which is as it should be. Scroll to the very bottom of this list by using the pull bar on the right.

The high-level scenery which we are interested in is at the bottom of the list. Use the UP and the DOWN arrows to arrange the entries in the order you would like them to be.

REMEMBER: Lower value scenery is displayed first with the higher-level scenery on top of that. Higher-level scenery will usually disable any lower-level scenery below that, so if you see a conflict because of two scenery packages that are in close proximity, then adjusting the layers here, may solve the problem.
