Opened in 1952, Johannesburg International Airport (FAOR) is the largest airport in South Africa, and the busiest. It is also a major gateway for tourist traffic and located approximately 24 kilometers (15 mi) from the Johannesburg city center.
Johannesburg International Airport is bordered by the suburbs of Alberton, Brakpan, Germiston and Kempton Park. It was established in 1952 as the Jan Smuts International Airport, named after Field Marshal Jan Christian Smuts, who was the Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa from 1919 to 1924 and from 1939 to 1948 as well as a staunch opposer of “Apartheid”.
In 2006 the airport was renamed to OR (Oliver Reginald) Tambo International Airport, after the former president of the African National Congress (ANC), hence the change in the Airport ID from FAJS to FAOR.
IMPORTANT SYSTEM FILE UPDATE
This package contains an update that will change the default Johannesburg Airport ID from FAJS to FAOR. The old FAJS airport will no longer be available in your Flight Simulator World Menu. This may cause AI Traffic to stop using Johannesburg International Airport entirely as some AI Traffic packages uses the older Airport ID of FAJS to route flight to. You will need to contact the provider of your AI package for a solution if you find that your AI Traffic no longer displays.

REQUIRED LIBRARIES
Our Scenery Library with common use objects are no longer distributed as part of this airport package. Please download and install it separately using the link below. This Library is needed for the correct working of the airport. Without it, you may not see the taxi lights, runway lights, apron lights, trees or vehicles parked at the airport. You only need to download and install this package once as all our airports uses it. Regular updates for these libraries may be required as our collection of airports grow.
