After three years, Microsoft has announced the follow up to their popular Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 program called Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
This announcement was made at the Xbox Games Showcase on 11 June and naturally it took the Flight Simulator community by storm. This will be a completely new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator which will require a re-purchase. It will be marketed as a standalone platform and will be the next-generation sequel to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020.
Virtually all airports and aircraft currently available in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 will be available in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Addons purchased via the Flight Simulator Market Place should all work as is in the new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator, but there may be addons that will not work. Those will require the developer of the addon to supply and updated version. It all depends on the changes the addon brings into the Flight Simulator program. Microsoft cannot guarantee that addons not bought via the Market Place will work. The developers of these packages may or may not provide updates or support for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
Microsoft intends to support both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 after the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Those of you who will not be upgrading immediately will still be able to use the copy of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 they have bought.
Below you will find the promotional video that Microsoft has released about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
From what can be seen in the video, it seems that Microsoft is going heavily into the mission or gaming side of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.
We will off course support the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 with our airports. As Microsoft has stated, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 airport will work in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, and we do not expect that any of our airport will not work with it straight out of the box so to speak.
We do not intend to continue developing airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 after the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and in time our airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 may stop working with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 if the upgrade to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2023 is not done. You can prevent this by downloading and backing up the airports you have bought if you have no intentions of upgrading.
A definite release date has not been set for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. All we know is that it will be released in 2024, but we do not know exactly when. Please watch the Microsoft Flight Simulator website for more information on the link below.
