We unfortunately have some very sad news and that is that the OR Tambo International Update for FSX, FSX Steam, Prepar3D (V3/V4) and X-Plane will not be ready as planned.
We have hit a rather big problem and that is that we have reached the VAS limit of all the 32-bit flight sims with this airport. What does that mean? As you may know, all the 32-bit flight simulators such as FSX, FSX (Steam Edition) and Prepar3D V3.x can only access 3.2Gb of RAM at any one time, even if you have a 64-bit Windows and even if you have much more than 4Gb of System RAM. If an airport becomes too detailed as in the case with OR Tambo, then the flight sim crashes with an out of memory error.
We have discovered this when we tried to add some additional vehicle parking areas to OR Tambo. Some of the buildings we have designed have disappeared. They are still there and they show in Prepar3D v4 which is 64-bit, but they do not show in FSX! If someone where to fly into this airport as it is now, their flight simulator will report an out of memory error. They will not be able to land at the airport unless they turn everything off to almost nothing.
What are we going to do?
First of all, we are going to complete the package with all the detail we wanted to put in. The 64-bit flight simulators such as Prepar3D v4 will very easily be able to handle the demand of a package such as this. We will naturally need to test the package before release preferably with someone who has Prepar3D v4 and one of the PMDG aircraft. We need to make sure that your flight simulator will not grind of a halt on approach!
Once the above is complete, we will design a limited version for FSX, FSX (Steam Edition) and Prepar3D V3.x with as much detail as possible without falling over. Obviously, we will not be able to include all the detail as we have intended, but we can only hope this will spur you on to invest into Prepar3D v4! Naturally we will need to extensively test this package with someone who has FSX, FSX (Steam Edition) and Prepar3D V3 and one of the PMDG aircraft.
We are deadest on using the PMDG aircraft as these aircraft is highly detailed and used by many. If someone with a PMDG aircraft can fly and land at OR Tambo in either FSX, FSX (Steam Edition) and Prepar3D V3, then we have succeeded!
As you may have gathered by now, this is not something that we will be able to accomplish before the end of the week as we would have liked to. Most of our beta testers are on holiday and will not be back until the second week in January. We will therefore need to wait and thoroughly test this package before we can release it to you.
We have set a preliminary release date for the 31st of January 2018. In the mean time we will continue work on this package.
