George Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Released

It is with pleasure that we announce the release of George Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020!

George Airport (FAGG) was built in 1977 as an exact replica of Keetmanshoop Airport in Namibia. It is a relatively small but busy and efficient enterprise. George Airport is situated 7.8 Km (4.8 Mi) from the town of George which is a city in South Africa’s Western Cape province.

As always, we try to design the airport as close to the real one as possible. We have also added PBR Texturing to all the buildings! The layout in terms of runway, taxiway and hangars is accurate.

As always, if you have bought this airport for FSX, Prepar3D or X-Plane before, then you qualify for an upgrade discount to this version.

Screen shots of these airports are available on the button below.

Kitty Hawk Aero Estate for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Released

It is with pleasure that we announce the release of Kitty Hawk Aero Estate for Microsoft Flight Simulator!

The Kitty Hawk Aerodrome was established as a Sectional Title Scheme in 1997 by the then owner of the ground where Kitty Hawk is situated. He envisioned an Aero Estate with houses adjacent to the runway.

It was decided to name the aero estate after the world-famous town Kitty Hawk. However, the developer encountered financial difficulties after the runway and 24 hangars were completed and sold. The result was that the land where houses would have been built was sold as a separate entity from the aerodrome.

The new Board of Trustees established in 2003 continued the development to what is today the Kitty Hawk Aerodrome. A place where aviators come together and “live their passion for flying true to the spirit of the Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk”.

As always, we try to go as close to the real airport as we possibly can. We have also added PBR Texturing to all the buildings! The layout in terms of runway, taxiway and hangars is accurate.

New Tempe Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Released

It is with pleasure that we announce the release of New Tempe Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator, our first airport for the Free State Area!

New Tempe Airport is situated 10km (6.6 miles) north-northwest from the Bloemfontein City Centre. The airport consists of two asphalt runways as well as two glider strips and taxi/micro-light landing strips next to the main runways.

The facility offers hangars and airstrips for light to medium sized aeroplanes, helicopters, micro-lights, gyrocopters, and high-altitude gliders. The airstrip is in uncontrolled airspace and the general flying area is just a five-minute flight to the north. Due to the excellent year-round flying conditions, it is ideal for training purposes.

As always, we try to go as close to the real airport as we possibly can. We have also added PBR Texturing to all the buildings! The layout in terms of runway, taxiway and hangars is accurate. AVGAS is available at the airport. All you must do is to part your aircraft next to the refuelling depo on the main apron. The dirt marks on the apron will be a good indicator where to park!

Morningstar Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Released

It is with pleasure that we announce the release of Morningstar Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator!

Situated next to the N7 highway just outside Cape Town is Morningstar Airport, some 21 kilometres (13 miles) north of Cape Town City Centre.

Formally known as the Western Cape Microlight Club, Morningstar Airport was founded 24 years ago as an airport for Microlight Aircraft. The Microlight Flying Club still is a non-profit company that leases land from the City of Cape Town. The club members have fully funded all development at the airport through subscriptions, donations, and levies.

Since the early days of catering for Microlight aircraft only, the club has grown substantially and the microlight aircraft have now been replaced by light sport aircraft, non-type certified aircraft, gyrocopters, and high-performance aerobatic aircraft. Today, Morningstar airport is home to over 220 different types of aircraft.

As always, we try to go as close to the real airport as we possibly can. We have also added PBR Texturing to all the buildings! The layout in terms of runway, taxiway and hangars is accurate. We also added hangars that the Microsoft Photoreal ground layer did not show! We like to think that this airport is as close to the real one as it is possible to achieve!

AVGAS is available at the airport. It is not needed to fly to Fisantekraal to refuel as in the old days!

Screen shots of these airports are available on the button below.

Johannesburg/OR Tambo International update for MSFS

We are working on an upgrade for Johannesburg International Airport (OR Tambo) and we expect this update to be ready very soon!

The first change we are making is to add Level Of Detail to all the buildings associated with this airport. This will make the X-Box users as well as some PC users with weaker systems smile as they will see the most benefit from this change!

What is Level of Detail? In layman’s terms, Level Of Detail or LOD is the process where every building has three levels of detail added to it. When you are at distance, the low-resolution version of the building will be displayed. As you fly closer, the model that you see will be replaced by a medium-resolution version and as you fly still closer, the high-resolution model will be displayed. This will help frame rate as the high-resolution version of the building does not have to be displayed all the time when you will not be able to see all the detail of the building anyway. This is especially true when flying past an airport without landing at it.

The second change is PBR texturing which means Physically Based Rendering. Again, in layman’s terms, this means that we will add textures to the existing textures that will add depth of field to all the objects. Bricks will stand out individually, cracks in plaster will be much more prominent than before and walls will be rougher and not as smooth as before. In fact, none of the buildings will appear smooth after this update. PBR adds an extra layer of depth that just makes the buildings look a lot more realistic!

This update will be available for free to all existing users of the product. No charge!

If you have any questions about this update, then we are here to answer them!

MSFS Airport Update for Jan 6 Patch

In our last message, we notified you that after the 6 January 2022 patch, the Living World Config Files that we have in our airports no longer work.

We have now updated all our airports for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and we have removed the Living World Config files from all packages. It was only the Living World Configuration files that was causing the issues and not the Airport Services file as we have previously thought.

Here are the airports and the changes we have made to them.

FAGM Rand Airport – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FAPN Pilanesberg International – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FARB Richards Bay Airport – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FASD Saldanha-Vredenburg Airport – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FASS Sishen Airport – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FAVG Virginia Airport – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FAWB Wonderboom Airport – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FAWX Zebula Golf Estate & Spa – Removed the Living World CFG file.

FAOR Johannesburg International – No change was made as this airport does not have either a Living World CFG file or an Airport Services file. We will be adding an Airport Services file with the next update when we will also be adding the PBR (Physically Based Rendering) textures and LOD (Level Of Detail) to the airport.

FAPE Port Elizabeth Airport – Besides for the removal of the Living World CFG file, we have also added LOD (Level of Detail) to all the airport buildings. This will help with the display of the buildings over distance. We have also added PBR (Physically Based Rendering) to all the airport buildings, making the airport look a lot more realistic than before. This is a completely updated version of the airport!

We did a quick test of all these airports and found that everything seems to work as intended. We do not foresee any funny issues, but if you spot something and you are not sure about it, then please let us know and we will have a look into it!

We only have one wish and that is that Microsoft will now start to stabilize the base of Microsoft Flight Simulator and stop breaking stuff that was working just perfectly before, but maybe we are aiming just a tad too high…

Updated versions of all the airports you have bought are available under your account downloads section after you log in.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Airport Updates

We have updated our Microsoft Flight Simulator airports with Airport Services and Living World configurations.

This update will be most noticeable at the smaller airfields where your aircraft will no longer be swamped by service personnel looking for work to do! In fact, we have limited the service at parking areas to Medium General Aviation Parking bays and higher. Small General Aviation Parking Bays will no longer be services at all. This is in line with the real world.

When you land at Zebula Airport, there will be no one there to meet you, which is exactly the way it should be! The same with Saldanha and Virginia. These airports are not big enough for these types of services.

Airports like Richards Bay is different. There you have Small General Aviation Parking and Medium General Aviation Parking. The Medium Parking Bays are used by the commercial flights to the airport and those parking bays will have services. The Small General Aviation Parking Bays does not have any service, which is again as it should be. That is the one place you do not want any people around your aircraft!

We have updated the following airports with these services.

  • Port Elizabeth Airport V3.6.6
  • Richards Bay Airport V1.0.8
  • Saldanha Airport V1.0.7
  • Sishen Airport V1.0.1
  • Virginia Airport V1.4.8
  • Zebula Airport V1.2.7

You can download these from your Account Downloads page once you have logged into your account.

Wonderboom Airport has already been updated with these features before release. We have no plans to update Johannesburg International as we have found that the default services provided by Microsoft Flight Simulator at the airport is sufficient for now.
