Durban International Airport (FADN) was opened in 1951, replacing the Stamford Hill Aerodrome. Durban International Airport was the smallest of South Africa’s international airport gateways with a single north-south runway. The airport is 16km from Durban Central and accessible from both the N2 and the M4 freeways.
Durban International Airport handled its final flight on 30 April 2010. All flights were transferred to the new King Shaka International Airport (FALE), 35 kilometres North of Durban in a single, overnight move.
Durban International Airport is closed, and it is currently unclear as to what the future usage of the airport site will be.
